Art Club

Membership: Open to all interested students.
D escription: Art Club members work on different types of art projects, including music, sculpture, food, and anything we would like to try. We do projects and teach different art forms like origami, bead art, and whatever else we are interested in. Some of us even try to meet outside of designated meeting times. When there are conventions and art shows, we will try to get information to members on where and when they are, and how much they cost. Art Club is a great place to make both friends and art at the same time!
Ambassador Club Moderator: Ms. Blais, kblais@fatherlopez.org D escription: As student ambassadors, we love Father Lopez, and we bring our enthusiasm for our school to our future classmates. Ambassadors make presentations to students and parents from our feeder-schools, we lead tours of our campus, and we make ourselves available for questions about Lopez. We also reach out to students who want to get a feel for what it's like to be a GreenWave by accompanying them on shadow days.
Chess Club Moderator: Mr. John Miller, jmiller@fatherlopez.org. Description: The Chess Club meets every Thursday at flex time. Students from beginner to advanced levels meet to play chess. In the second semester the annual Lopez Chess Tournament is held.
Drama Club Moderators: Mrs. Griffiths, mgriffiths@fatherlopez.org and Mrs. Svajko, lsvajko@fatherlopez.org M embership: Open to all students. Description: Love to act? How about singing? Or would you rather work behind the scenes, designing or directing? If you answered yes to any of these questions, the Drama Club is for you. Members participate in numerous activities including plays, one acts, and District and State Festivals. Members may also choose to join the International Thespian Society, an organization devoted to the dramatic arts.
Geometry Club Moderator: Mr. J. Miller, jmiller@fatherlopez.org M embership: Students who enjoy challenging mathematical puzzles and problems are invited to join this club. Description: Every Tuesday, members pick up the week's 4 challenging math problems to solve. At our Friday lunch meetings, students who have successfully solved a problem can present their solution to the other members on the overhead. Prizes are awarded each week to the first student to solve each problem. Throughout the year and especially on March 14, we celebrate pi by eating pie!
Ministers in Christian Action (M.I.C.A.) Moderator: Mrs. Marie Gallo-Lethcoe, mgallo_lethcoe@fatherlopez.orgMembership: Open to all interested students. D escription: The MICA team provides service to the Lopez community through music ministry at masses and prayer services. For those who are not musically inclined, other opportunities include helping with mass set-up, and projection of PowerPoint presentations.
Model United Nations (M.U.N.) Moderator: Mrs. Everett, peverett@fatherlopez.org
Membership: Open to all students with an interest in international affairs.D escription: Want to learn about new countries and debate their opinions and views on important issues? Or talk about new political issues going on in the world today? Then Model United Nations, also known as Model UN, is the club for you! Model UN is similar to a debate team, but it focuses solely on international affairs and issues. Each month, local Model UN conferences are held at various high schools. Each club member is assigned a country, and researches that nation's foreign policy and point of view on a given topic. We discuss everything from poverty in small countries to weapons of mass destruction. Members get to dive into the fascinating world of international issues, and debate about whether their ideas and those of the other delegates are useful in solving the conflict or topic of the day. But don't worry; it's not all work and no play. We have opportunities to attend local, regional, and national conferences. These exciting experiences are unforgettable: we meet new people, make new friends, have fun, and solve the problems of the world! | National Honor Society (N.H.S.) Moderator: Mrs. Patterson, dpatterson@fatherlopez.org Membership: Juniors and Seniors with a 3.5 G.P.A. minimum are invited to apply. A panel of faculty members determines membership after an extensive interview. D escription: The National Honor Society is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but also challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
Students Against Destructive Decisions (S.A.D.D.)
Moderator: Ms. Pat Lodholtz, plodholtz@fatherlopez.org. Membership: Open to all interested students. D escription: SADD is a peer leadership organization dedicated to preventing destructive decisions, particularly underage drinking, other drug use, impaired driving, teen violence and teen depression and suicide. Members work to provide students with the best prevention and intervention tools possible
Student Government Association (S.G.A.)Moderatos: School-wide SGA: Ms. Blais, kblais@fatherlopez.org, Membership: Students interested in being school or class leaders, and who maintain high academic and disciplinary standards, are invited to run for office. Officers are elected each year. D escription:SGA student leaders are responsible for coordinating many events throughout the school year, including fundraising efforts, spirit days and pep rallies, and homecoming events. School-wide (or 'Big') SGA oversees and monitors all school-wide activities. Incoming freshmen will elect officers shortly after school begins.
W orld Languages Club Moderator: Mrs. Wendy Therrien, wtherrien@fatherlopez.org Membership: Open to all Description: The World Languages Club meets twice a month, during school hours, to socialize and to take care of club business. A meeting is also held outside of school once a month to allow students to experience the food and culture of a variety of countries. These meetings are held in student homes or at restaurants. In addition to having meetings and other activities, WLC students are invited, in February, to earn extra-credit by participating in the Volusia County Foreign Language Festival. Furthermore, during Discover Languages week in March, a Spanish/French trivia contest is played. The prize for this contest is the coveted Rooster, which is currently being held by the Spanish students. Although French and Spanish are the two languages taught at Lopez, WLC is a club for any student interested in exploring other languages and cultures.
French and Spanish Honor Societies Moderator for French: Mr. O'Dell, sodell@fatherlopez.org Moderators for Spanish: Mrs. Therrien, wtherrien@fatherlopez.org and Mrs. Mann-Grosso, vmann_grosso@fatherlopez.org Membership: Second semester Sophomores and any Juniors and Seniors who have demonstrated consistent excellence in French and Spanish classes. Members are chosen by the moderators based on academic transcripts. Members must also be members in the World Languages Club. Description: The French and Spanish Honor Societies are an extension of our World Languages Club at Lopez. The very best and brightest students in French and Spanish are invited into these national societies. Society members earn the right to wear a special honor cord at graduation.
