ADVANCED PLACEMENT (AP) COURSES


Advanced Placement courses are offered in mathematics, science, English, fine arts, and social studies. Advanced Placement courses are college level courses for academically capable students, taken on the Father Lopez Catholic High School campus. At the end of each course, students may sit for an exam written by the College Board. College credit or placement may be awarded at the discretion of the college or university a student attends. Students must have an 'A' average in a subject, score in the top stanine on a standardized exam, and receive instructor permission to register for an AP course. All students must take the instructor's final exam for the course.

DUAL ENROLLMENT (DE) COURSES

Father Lopez students in 11th through 12th grades may choose to earn college credit while attending high school through our Dual Enrollment agreement with Daytona State College. College courses are offered at no additional tuition cost. Fees for the program include textbooks and some testing fees (see below). Dual Enrollment courses are college courses for academically capable students, taught by qualified Father Lopez Catholic High School faculty members on the Father Lopez campus. Students participating in DE courses are expected to do college-level work and will be held to college standards for grading. All grades earned in Dual Enrollment classes are recorded on an official Daytona State College transcript. All credits earned may be transferred at the discretion of the college or university a student attends. Once enrolled in the Dual Enrollment program, students may also choose to take Daytona State College evening, weekend, and summer courses free of charge.

ELIGIBILITY FOR DUAL ENROLLMENT

Students must have a minimum 3.0 un-weighted cumulative G.P.A. and passing scores from any one of the following tests to gain admission:

 SAT: 440 Reading, 440 Math

 ACT: 18 Reading, 17 Writing, 19 Math

 PERT: 104 Reading, 99 Writing

The PERT should be taken at the end of the student’s sophomore or junior year in order to begin Dual Enrollment classes in the fall. Foreign language students are required to take the Assessment of Prior Learning Experience (APLE) at Daytona State College.
