Freshmen:
Update from Mr. Cabiac and Freshmen Class Officers:
I can't believe that the Freshmen year is almost over. Note that I said "almost," we still have a lot to do. The Freshmen SGA, as you may have heard, is hosting the 1st Annual Father Lopez BIG Give. This will be a competition, if you will, to see which teams can go out into the community and "out-give" each other. Due to it's length, this activity will be held after school on Fridays and/or Saturdays and Sundays. As a group, the students will go out to pre-approved/safe areas in the city and help as many people as they can. This "game" will include the students having to work with money, as a team, and in a community where real life is an everyday ordeal. Teams can sign-up with L.J. Whalen anyday during the next two weeks up to April 18th, 2008 during homeroom. The competition will kick off with their first challenge in the local community. The students will also be briefed on how the "game" works and the rules and regulations. Also, we are looking for volunteers to come with some of the SGA members to the Halfax Medical Hospital to deliver toys to children as a "BIG Give" warm-up. If you are interested, you can see L.J. Whalen at any time. We will keep you posted on all of the activities all the way through the end of the year. [TOP]

Juniors:
Weekly update from Mrs. Snyder:
IThe school year has flown by and we are in the middle of making plans for our senior year.
A list of senior privileges has been submitted.
Dates have been selected for Grad Bash (at Universal Studios), baccalaureate and commencement exercises for the fiftieth graduating class.
We are planning activities like tailgate parties for home games as well as socials before plays and other fine arts programs.
We hope to have once-a-month fun nights, like roller skating or going to the movies.
I have some summer projects for which I will need some parents’ help. These are meant to be surprises for the students.
This week, I will be asking for student volunteers to help with:
folding programs for baccalaureate – meet in room 206
folding programs for graduation - meet in room 206
distributing programs at the baccalaureate/senior awards ceremony and
cleaning up the church after the celebrations – Thursday, May 15, at
6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Deltona
directing seniors and staff to the ready rooms at the commencement exercises –
Saturday, May 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the Mary McLeod Bethune Performing
Arts Center
FROM GUIDANCE:
Resumes were due to Mrs. Dowdy on April 4th. If you have not submitted one yet, do so as soon as possible. Remember that it is a work in progress and you may continue to add to it and replace a new one for the one on file in guidance. Once your resume is turned in you may begin asking teachers, employers etc. for college recommendations. You should have at least three in your hand before the end of this school year. This summer you should begin reviewing college applications (most are on line or you can ask the college to mail one to you). If an application requires one or more essays, now is the time to start thinking about what you will write. You have help right here with your English teachers (past and present). Be prepared to turn applications in when you return for your senior year. Of course, you should have SAT and ACT scores to submit. If you have not taken one of these tests, there are still two opportunities to take the SAT (May 3 or June 7) and the ACT (April 12 or June 14). You must have these scores in order to be considered for admission. [TOP]

The 2008-09 Student Financial Aid Application is now on-line. The
Office of Student Financial Assistance website at www.FloridaStudentFinancialAid.org provides the
FFAA to students seeking state scholarships and grant awards for the 2008 postsecondary cademic year.
This includes the Florida Bright Future Scholarships. For this scholarship, it only takes a few minutes and it
is NOT need based. ALL seniors should complete this form whether you think you may be eligible or not.
The only way I can forward your transcript information for you to be considered for any state award is if I
receive the O.K. from Tallahassee that you have completed this form. If you have any questions or
concerns, please contact me. I will walk you through this process.

USER ID and PIN to access his/her application and check and/or update application status.
