Dear Green Wave Family:

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you our student-athletes, families, friends, and alumni to another phenomenal year at Father Lopez Catholic High School and Green Wave Athletics.  While looking back on the 2015-2016 season, it is easy to see that it was another one for the record books. The Boys Cross Country team brought home the FHSAA State 1A Championship, the schools 7th team state championship in our history, which was to be combined with numerous other Green Wave district and regional titles.  We opened our newly built Lopez Baseball & Softball Complex which saw collections of fans enjoy Baseball and Softball on campus together for the first time in school history.  Plans are well underway to expand the complex, with the addition of two ten inning professional style scoreboards to be installed in the fall of 2016.  We also will be installing 250 new seats on the away side of Alumni Stadium which is slated to be completed before the start of the Green Wave Football home schedule in August.  These projects are shining examples of the generous support of our benefactors to help provide a first class environment and experience for our student-athletes.

To be a Father Lopez Catholic athlete is something that is very special and holds a distinct honor and privilege.  Words such as tradition, excellence, integrity, passion, and faith hold incredible weight within the walls of our campus, and they are the cornerstones for everything we stand for each and every day.  Our coaching staff’s main focus will continue to be on developing the complete student-athlete within our schools mission: “To pursue excellence within the Catholic Tradition”.  Our coaches and support staff believe in mentoring all three phases: “Student-Person-Player”; as we strive to see our student-athletes graduate as complete and well-rounded young men and women. We will continue to work tirelessly to win championships on the playing field, along with acting within our important role as a supporter to our first class academic environment and spiritual formation for each student-athlete.

Another major theme that you will recognize from our Athletic Department will be to become a standard-setter for positive sportsmanship and leadership within all that we do athletically.  We know that each one of our coaches and athletes represent something so much bigger than themselves, and these attributes are something we want to place in the forefront during every athletic contest.  With this endeavor, we need everyone’s help at all of our contests, not only at home on our beautiful campus but when we are away as another school’s guest. Cheer loud and often for the Green Wave Nation and help us provide a positive experience for all those participating in the game as well as watching in the stands.

It is with great excitement that I welcome everyone, both new and returning, to another record-setting year of Lopez Athletics. It is an honor to serve our community, and I look forward to another exciting year of Green Wave sports.  If there is anything that I or anyone within our Athletic Department can do for you, please do not hesitate to call our offices.  Have a safe and exciting sports season.  Go Green Wave!

God Bless,
